At Bilby 3D our mission is to bring quality but affordable desktop 3d printers, Scanners and other equipment to the Australian Prosumer to Industrial user.
Whether you be a designer in a home office, start-up, training organisation, design department or flexible manufacturing facility, we are dedicated to bringing you the latest technology to prototype, test and manufacture your products, and there to support you in the future.
We have sold tens of thousands of printers, repaired hundreds of machines from many makes and have tens of thousands of printing hours between us.
If you are looking to buy, upgrade or repair a 3D Printer, we are here to help with Australian warehoused parts and supplies, ready for fast dispatch to you the same or next working day.
Order online or drop in to our showrooms in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth to see 3D printers in action, pickup the filament you need, and see what is possible.
We are here to bring the lastest in desktop prototyping equipment to Australia. To distribute and support the equipment in the workplaces and workshops of makers, creators, designers, architects and engineers
We will do this with a diverse workforce. The IT and Engineering industries are male dominated, and we are proud to have around 50% women at all levels of Bilby3D.
We will do this as sustainably and with the minimum of waste, as possible. We recently had to re-package 100 machines which meant the disposal of a large amount of polystyrene. We found a recycler nearby who would take it. It was not cheap, but ended up less costly than hiring multiple skips going to landfill. It was less convenient, because we had to transport the Polystyrene to the recycler, but found that we did not have to hire a method of transport as our cheerfully staff volunteered their own cars to drive the waste to the nearby recycling centre.
After starting and running the parent company for 13 years with Lee Bilby, founder and CEO Chris Bilby wanted to return to his roots in Mechanical Design and Engineering while leveraging his skills in business and computer software. With significant experience of 3D CAD software in everything from Construction to Mining and Aerospace, the nascent desktop 3D printing industry looked like a great fit.
After watching the first RepRap Darwin and then Prusa designs become available, in October of 2011, the business name of BilbyCNC was registered.
As the business quickly grew, and became the biggest reseller of Makerbot 3D printers in the world in 2012 and 2013, it became a seperate company as Bilby3D, and outgrew it's offices to start establishing presences across the eastern states of Australia in 2013.
In 2018, the first customised 3D printer built to Bilby3D specifications was launched (we had previously created our own Prusa kit in 2011), the FlashForge Inventor 2 SE - or Special Edition. This machine was selected as the preferred machine by the NSW Education Department. This machine went on to perform strongly around the country, and in New Zealand.
