Usage Tips
• Autoclave steralisation at 121°C for 20mins, or 132°C for 10. Some shirnkage has been observed - by 3% in the X-Y only. Scale your print for accurate dimensions
• Annealing: For parts exposed to repeated autoclaving or prolonged heat and humidity, annealing can significantly improve the performance and reliability of 3D-printed components.
For PEN Natural, this means:
- Raises heat resistance from ~125 °C to ~165 °C
- Improves tensile strength by ~5–10%
- Increases long-term hydrolysis resistance by ~35% at 80 °C
- Crystallization is visible — the part turns white during annealing
Method 1 – Oven Annealing
• Place the part in an oven and heat to 160 °C
• Hold at 160 °C for 20 minutes
• Turn off the oven and let the part cool slowly inside to 100 °C (about 20–25 minutes)
- Dimensional changes:
- XY shrinkage: ~10%
- Z growth: ~7%
Method 2 – Sand Bath Annealing (for better dimensional control)
• In a metal container, spread 5–7 mm of medical-grade silica sand at the bottom
• Place the part on the sand bed and cover it completely with loose sand (do not compact)
• Heat the container to 165 °C and hold for 30 minutes
• Let the part cool slowly inside to 100 °C (about 35 minutes)
- Dimensional changes:
- XY shrinkage: <5%
- Z growth: <3%
?? These annealing conditions are based on a part size of 60 mm × 10 mm × 10 mm
